John Heffernan has written over fifty books, with more than thirty under his own name, for early readers to young adults, and a further nineteen as Charlie Carter, in the Pan Macmillan Battle Boy Series.
John particularly passionate about some of his award-winning books, including Spud, Pup, and The Boot Theif which are Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Notable Books. My Dog was awarded CBCA Book of the Year for Younger Readers, Two Summers received the Crichton Award, and The Island received an Honour Book Award from the CBCA, and a White Raven award at Bologna. To name a few! John has also written the truly uplifting Naveed, which is about an Afghan boy’s struggle to keep his family together in the midst of war.
John ranks his latest book with these special works. Hotaka (March 2017) examines the 2011 Japanese tsunami through the eyes of a deeply introspective teenage boy.
