Peter Carnavas

Peter creates picture books for children and grown-ups to enjoy. He is both a writer, and an illustrator. He writes simple yet poignant tales, accompanied by whimsical illustrations, which combine to create layers of meaning for the reader. His first book, Jessica’s Box, which was shortlisted for the Queensland Premier's Literary Award and the CBCA Crichton Award for Emerging Illustrators. Peter has also written picture books such as Last Tree in the City, The Great Expedition, The Children Who Loved Books and Blue Whale Blues. Peter is also the illustrator of the Mr Darcy picture book series, written by Alex Field, and My Totally Awesome Story by Pat Flynn. Peter has just released his stunning first chapter book in July 2017, called The Elephant.

Peter’s work has been nominated for many awards and Peter was honoured to be a National Year of Reading Ambassador in 2012 and continues his role as a Love2Read National Ambassador in 2013. He has presented at a number of schools not only in Australia, but Europe and Asia, and his picture books have been translated into a number of languages.

Peter lives on the Sunshine Coast with his wife, two daughters and a scruffy dog that occasionally escapes.
